This year for my birthday, I decided to learn about wines, and had the perfect opportunity to do so when the entire Sweet Spot team and I went to a high-end wine bar and eatery called Cuvée.

Located in Louisville Kentucky. Cuvee is a brand new place, owned by Master Sommelier Scott Harper. (For perspective, there are only 149 professionals with the title Master Sommelier.)

The Court of Master Sommeliers was established to encourage improved standards of beverage knowledge and service in hotels and restaurants. Education was then, and remains today, the Court's charter. The first successful Master Sommelier examination was held in the United Kingdom in 1969. By April 1977, the Court of Master Sommeliers was established as the premier international examining body.

To be at a "Wine Table," for my birthday (as Cuvée is called), was pretty impressive. Plus, the service was impeccable. Our ser...

For the next 60 days I will be sharing a chapter a day of my first POP EROTICA novel.  Bang Bang Bang, A summer of sin in Brooklyn.

Chapter Twenty Two

Max sat up on his couch.  His brain was buzzing.  Hangovers were not his thing.  He walked slowly to the fridge, got a pitcher of water and took it to the head.  He walked back to the couch and sat down, turned the television on hoping something really boring could put him out of his misery.

Everything seemed dreamy; he could not tell if he was asleep or awake.  There was a knock at his door.  “Who the hell could this be?”  He got up to check the door.  He was wearing a pair of white jockey shorts.  The only person he was expecting was Sophie, she should be heading home by this time but she had her keys so who could it be?

   He checked t...

ChapterTwenty One

“Let’s do lunch tomorrow.”  A text landed on Max’s phone.  It was Amanda.

   “Where?” Max replied.

He did not want to meet her but he knew he had to sort out the details of their ongoing rendezvous.  The first time it happened he felt bad and he hated himself for it, but by the third time he knew he was a bastard.  It was not like she was forcing herself on him.  He could have said no.

“Meet me at the diner at Atlantic and Third.”

   “What time?”

   “12:30.”

Max wondered what Amanda had up her sleeve.  For a moment he really wanted to know but then he thought about his boy Maurice.  “Damn, what kind of a person am I?” he thought to himself.  Then he had a weird t...

Chapter Twenty

As soon as he stepped out of Pillow his phone rang.  It was Max.  Brenton ignored the call.  He was heading back to Emily.  His phone rang again.  It was Max again.

   “Yow” Brenton answered.

“You good?” Max rasped into the phone.

“Yeah I’m good.”  Brenton was speed walking while he spoke.

“Man I am done man, I am fuckin’ done drinking.  My fucking head is killing me, my kidneys hurt, my entire body is feeling all retarded and shit.  If you ever see me say I’m gonna drink again I need you to fucking shoot me bro.”

“Done?” Brenton laughed as he answered.

This was vintage Max.  He quits drinking every weekend only to forget that he did the following wee...

Chapter Nineteen

“How was L.A brah?”  Brenton greeted KEV as he walked in.
“Shit was hot man, them dudes out there show a nigga love though, know I’m saying.”

“Shit that’s what we need man, that’s that return money, they gon’ be begging to have you back.  I give it like two weeks they’ll be calling, bet.”

“Man the bitches out there are on it too man.”

“I thought your wife went with you?” Brenton asked.

“She did, but you know how we do right?”  KEV was as cool as a cucumber.

He was not particularly ugly but he definitely did not get any points for looks.  All his bravado and swag came from his self-belief.  KEV’s wife was damn near a super model.  In any other life time KEV marryin...

Chapter Eighteen

By mid-afternoon Sophie was bored.  Max was passed out on the couch.  He was nursing a slight headache.  He had all the blinds closed.  She did not want to disturb him.  Her mind ran on Meghan.  She paused for a moment and took a deep breath as she decided to call.

“Hey Sophie how are you?”  Meghan was a little hesitant.  She and Sophie had not spoken about what had happened at Outpost.  They had spoken a few times since but avoided the issue.

“What are you doing today?  We should hang out, talk, and by the way thank you so, so much for recommending that therapist.”  Sophie sounded happy and free, not like her regular controlled self.

   “She’s amazing right?”...
