As an artist people ask me how I am able to survive as an artist. To survive as an artist you have to know how to run a business, the business of YOU. Yes, it is a very difficult thing for most ARTISTS to understand, but in order for you to be a full-time artist you MUST know how to make money from your art. So take a class on marketing, sign up for a few online business courses. The more you know about business as an artist, the easier life will be.

Art is difficult enough. But these days being just an artist is not going to cut it. You have to be PR, Marketer, CEO and accountant.

So it is not about either or, it is no longer a choice between two things. Nowadays it is BOTH. - you have to be an artist and a business person.
